Post Graduate Permit
At Fanshawe College – Woodstock Campus, international graduates from eligible programs can apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP). To qualify, students must complete a program that is at least 8 months in duration and results in a diploma, advanced diploma, or certificate from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) like Fanshawe. Graduates must apply for the PGWP within 180 days of receiving their final transcript or official completion letter. Programs such as Business – Entrepreneurship and Management and Business – Co-op are among those eligible for the PGWP. For specific details on program eligibility, it is recommended to check with the college directly.
Co-op/Internship Participation
Work semesters are spaced out through the academic program and students achieve progressively advanced skill levels as they advance through their studies. Similarly, the work experience opportunities should increase in difficulty and responsibility as the student progresses through the program. Normally, work semesters are four months in duration but in some programs, there are double co-ops of eight months or even longer. The minimum duration is 12 weeks of full-time employment.
Work While Studying
At Fanshawe College, international students are permitted to work while studying under specific conditions. They can work up to 20 hours per week during academic terms and full-time during scheduled breaks, provided their study permit includes authorization for off-campus work. To be employed, students must also obtain a Social Insurance Number (SIN). Fanshawe offers various on-campus employment opportunities through programs like IWorks, which provides part-time positions for international students during the academic year, and the International Summer Employment Program, allowing full-time work during the summer months. These roles offer competitive wages and valuable work experience within the college community. Additionally, students may engage in work-integrated learning opportunities, such as internships and co-op placements, which are integral to many programs and can provide essential industry experience. However, participation in these programs requires a co-op work permit, which must be obtained before commencing any work term.
