College Overview

Fleming College first opened in 1967 as a college of applied arts and technology. Located in the heart of the Kawarthas in the City of Peterborough, Fleming Sutherland Campus is the college largest campus with approximately 4,380 full-time students. Fleming College Frost Campus is located in Lindsay, Ontario, with programming geared towards environmental and trades-based industries/roles. Fleming College is named for Sir Sandford Fleming who was a famous Canadian visionary, engineer and inventor. Fleming was born in Kirkaldy, Scotland in 1827 and moved to Peterborough in 1845. He was responsible for many advances in Canada including construction of the Trans-Canada railway, laying the first trans-Atlantic telephone cable, the invention of Universal Standard Time, and designing Canada first postage stamp. Fleming College is inspired by Sir Sandford Fleming’s powerful legacy and are excited about the future of education as they mark the 50th anniversary of the College in 2017.Why Fleming College strong pulliu Campus life The Frost Campus is surrounded by the natural beauty of rivers, lakes and green space. They continuously strive to reduce their carbon footprint while aiming to achieve top industry sustainability standards. In fact, the Frost campus is a living, learning lab for students and includes many green features: community and pollinator gardens, arboretum; green roof; apiary; wind turbine; geothermal heating and cooling system; and a constructed wetland for waste treatment. The Post-Graduation Work Permit Program (PGWPP) allows students who have graduated from a participating Canadian post-secondary institution to gain valuable Canadian work experience.

Co-op/Internship Participation
Cooperative education (or co-operative education) and internships are methods of combining classroom-based education with practical work experience. A cooperative education experience ("co-op"), provides academic credit for structured job experience. Co-ops are full-time, paid or unpaid positions. Internships may be full-time or part-time, paid or unpaid positions.
